I have a Microsoft 2000 keyboard that my wife didn't like. She went to the
store and got a Microsoft 500 wire keyboard. When I hooked it up the
computer wouldn't recognize it. It did not come with a CD install disk. So I
went to Microsoft and got what appears to be an "update" file. I downloaded
it, ran it but the pc still won't connect to it. Also the Keyboard "now'
does not show up in the the device manager. I hooked up the 2000 and it
works ok, but it also doesn't show in the Device Manager. Any suggestions
would be appreciatied.

Get a refund for the 500 and use the 2000.

Try going to control panel---add hardware.
