Running XP Home Ed.
All of a sudden two keys on the numbers line give the incorrect
output--for instance the 2 key plus shift gives " instead of @ and the
3 key plus shift gives the English pound sign instead of the hash sign.
I presume this is a setting problem but have been unable to locate it.

You have the UK keyboard seting installed it sounds like..
open "Control panel", then "regional and language options", click on the
"languages" Tab, then the "details" button. now you can change the
keyboard back to US, then Apply the setting, your done..
