Keyboard trou bles

Sorry if this is a dup - it didn't seem to go last time I tried.

My Dell machine blew up--literally, with a bang and puff of smoke--and
Dell shipped a warranty replacement.

The old machine was running XP Pro. The new one, despite my pleading,
came with Vista which I cannot use - some key apps are known not to run
properly yet under Vista. And I didn't really want to re-install
everything anyway.

I had a disk-image backup of the three XP partitions that I made the day
before the explosion. I restored it to the new machine and find that I
cannot log on to XP because it isn't recognizing the keyboard.

The old machine had a conventional, 5-pin DIN connector for the kbd,
which is how it was attached. The new machine doesn't have that
connector, so I had to dig up a USB keyboard. The mouse in both cases
was usb-attached.

The mouse works fine. The keyboard works fine when I turn on the
machine--I can enter Setup mode and everything works. I can then boot
Windows and the boot option screen allows me to use the keyboard.

It's only when boot gets to the point of asking me for my password that
I get stuck. The mouse is still working, but the keyboard is not
recognized. I have tried a USB keyboard and a wireless one - both work
up to the signon step.

Any ideas how to repair this?

Thanks,
Jason

If your image came from a different PC you would need to run a repair
installation of win & install the drivers for your new PC
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Your image is still locked to drivers etc from the old PC
One would hope also that the version of winxp isnt locked to the origonal
hw, or that it is a retail edition win
PS Dell still supplies winxp systems
