Keyboard @ symbol

Bit of a novice but when I press the shift + @ keys the "
and vice-versa appears which makes it really annoying
when I e-mail people.

Looks like you may have the wrong keyboard set up. This sound like you have
a French Canadian keyboard set up. The @ should come out when you do:
<Ctrl><Alt><2>.
