Keyboard Shortcuts

I use keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+alt+<letter>) to start programs I use
most often. I recently installed a new version of a program and it
uninstalled and reinstalled the start menu sorrtcuts that were for the
old program, including the one with my shortcut keys on it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have deleted the shortcut key
definition. When I try to set the same keys for the new version of the
program, Windows won't accept it (since it's apparently already in use)
but it won't start anything because the original program and icon are gone.

I've tried to find the entry in the registry but can't locate it. Any
ideas out there?

Thanks.

In the past, when making changes, I have sometimes found that I
couldn't reassign a combination even after unassigning it. The cure
that always worked for me was to reboot, thus forcing Windows to
reinitialize its list. Just logging off and on again might do it.

Or have you tried those, and they didn't work for you?

Keyboard shortcut key-combinations, defined in shortcut (.lnk) files, are not held in
the registry at all, but stay in the shortcut file they were defined in.

When a Ctrl-Shift-AnyKey or Ctrl-Alt-AnyKey key combination is pressed, Windows
searches through all the desktop and start-menu shortcuts looking for a match.

Try looking in your "Recycle Bin" as even if you have deleted the shortcut, if it
still exists in the "Recycle Bin" the same key-combi will still not be accepted until
it is permanently deleted from the system...
