Keyboard & Registry

Keyboard dead. Click any key and the whole pc locks up and must be rebooted.
When I run the test in control panel I get the message about an error with
the registry. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled hoping that it would
correct registry. Nope. Tried to used the system tool and went back to
restore from a week ago. Message that nothing had changed. Then tried to
use the tool to go back to a previous version of the registry. Nope, that
didn't work. Limited to what I can do on the PC since any keyboard activity
locks up the pc.

What changed you ask? Windows Defender found some type of keyboard spyware
and asked to remove it. Happily said yes. Now I have no keyboard!

Appreciate any thoughts and solutions. Thanks in advance.

That's a common experience, unfortunately. Sometimes removing spyware
damages the system, particularly if the removal process wasn't selective
enough. That's why with spyware, prevention is always better than cure.

Nevertheless...try another keyboard to see if the problem persists. That
will tell you if the problem is really in your system or only with your
keyboard.

If the problem persists: Uninstall any software that came with the
keyboard, e.g., IntelliType, SetPoint. (You may need to restart your
computer.) Still got problems? Remove the keyboard in Device Manager and
restart your computer. Windows will re-detect the keyboard and install a
fresh driver. With any luck that'll take care of it.

I did not try. What will this accomplish?

I know the keyboard troubleshooting points to a problem with the registry.
I assume I am going to have to remove or overwrite something in the registry.
I was hoping uninstalling the driver would do this, but I was wrong. While
I know a fair amount about PCs to usually help people with basic problems, I
am not a technician. I am also guessing? if I install a different brand of
keyboard, it will create a new registry key.
Thanks

I thought I was safe with Spybot Search & Destroy, Adaware, Zone Alarm,
Samantic Virus. When I heard about Defender, I figured you can never be too
safe.
When I get home tonight I will try and few of the suggestions people have
told me about. Thanks.
