Keyboard Problems

I am working on WinXP Pro (SP2, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD). Today I bought a
new keyboard along with a PCI Card (having 4 USB ports), I also have
Linux Mandriva installed in my PC.

When my PC starts, it gives me 2 OS options - Mandriva & WinXP Pro.
At this point, pressing the Up & Down arrows on the keyboard should
select either of the 2 OS's alternately but strangely, this isn't
happening since I started using the new keyboard! In other words, the
one which was selected by default remains selected even when the Up &
Down arrows are pressed on the keyboard. I concluded that maybe the
new keyboard I installed may not be getting the power when my PC
starts since pressing the Up & Down arrows doesn't alternate between
the 2 OS's. Also the "Num Lock" indicator on the keyboard lights up at
the point where I am supposed to enter my username & password.

Can someone please help me out with this?

The connection type of the old keyboard was PS/2 where as the
connection type of the new keyboard is USB. Never did I experience the
problem I have stated above with my old keyboard.

Please note that I haven't installed any new drivers for the new
keyboard since tje new keyboard started responding as soon as I
plugged it in one of the USB ports on the CPU.

the use of a usb keyboard
is dependent upon the
motherboard. not all
motherboards have the
option to use a keyboard
via usb.

but my guess would be that
your does not because it might
have recognized your usb
keyboard initially.

however, access your cmos/bios
setup, and look for the option
to enable a usb keyboard, if
any.

also, if you have the option
it will likely required the utilization
of a built in/on board usb and
not via a usb pci board that
has been added.

you might need try something
like this if you do not have
the proper configuration
described above:

Thanks friends for your suggestions. Using the same new keyboard, I
went into the BIOS (no idea how the Del key worked to take me to the
BIOS) where "USB Keyboard Support" was Disabled. I Enabled it & it's
working perfect now.

Thanks once again,

Regards,

Ron
