I reinstalled windows recently but after reinstalling my keyboard has started
behaving in a peculiar way. When I press '\' on my keyboard '#' sign appears.
Similarly when I press '#' ,'£' sign appears.I've tried reinstalling the
drivers for the keyboard but it doesn't work.Is it a keyboard problem or a
windows problem and how can I rectify it ? Please help!

I had a similar problem a few months ago, and corrected it using
settings in Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages
[Press button] "Details".
The relevant settings in my computer (in India) are as follows:

"EN" (United Kingdom)
Keyboard
United Kingdom
EN English (United States)
Keyboard
US
Your name suggests that you are also in India. The above settings
should work for you.

It's not any sort of problem. It's just a configuration setting.

You are using a UK keyboard with a US keyboard layout, or vice-versa.

Change the keyboard layout in Control Panel | Regional and Language
Options | Languages | Details | Settings.
