Keyboard @ & " problem

D

dfrog

Need some help please.
Just setup daughter's new IBM Thinkcentre PC with WIN XP Home.
In the initial setup I followed the recommendation onscreen to select
'American English' for English locale (we are in England). Now I don't know
if this has any bearing on this issue, but the keyboard which came with the
PC prints a " from the @ key and a @ from the " key.
I have since checked all the language settings in Control Panel and
everything I can find is set to UK / English.
Is there a way that I can reverse this situation to have the keyboard
function properly?

Where on *earth* were you recommended to set it up as US English? Nowhere in
the set up does it state that "US English is recommended". Could you please
tell me exactly where it states that? I have installed XP (both Home and
Pro) on at least 20 systems and it has *NEVER* recommended the use of US
English. What would be the point of doing so?

It has everything to do with it. That is the standard layout for a US
keyboard.

What even the keyboard settings?

When you set up the keyboard/language settings on the XP installation,
at the bottom of the screen it say something like "If you are using an
English keyboard, select US English". These are not the same words, but
it is implied which I found strange especially since there is the
English keyboard just above the US.

Thank you for your response, even though it does seem a bit aggressive.
If you have setup 20 systems with XP then you are far more knowledgeable
than I am, and I would think be in a position to help me if you wish to.
It is some couple of days now since I did this setup and much has happened
since so I may not be able to be very specific, and bearing in mind that I
did not expect to encounter problems at this stage, didn't make notes as I
went along, rather did what I was prompted to do on the screen ( and it
isn't my intention to offend your knowledge by arguing about this bit of my
issue)
I am not on said PC just now but on my own with XP Home, and under Keyboard
in Control Panel all I have is Keyboard Properties with 3 tabs -Speed -
Hardware - Buttons. Under Hardware Properties I have Compaq PS2 Keyboard
Properties with 3 tabs - General - Driver - Power Management. There appears
to be nowhere to change Keyboard Settings, from memory this is similar to
said IBM PC, this is why I asked for help.
The answer may well be in front of me but I cannot see it and would
appreciate some qualified guidance.
Thank you

Thank you for that Superfly - that is the bit that I refer to and I believe
has caused my problem. I still need to find a way to correct this situation.
Maybe if Miss P T reads this it will go towards explaining my error.

Gulp !!
I've just learned a lesson - I think I have now found where to make this
change to keyboard settings - Control Panel - Reg & Language - Languages
tab - Details button - Settings tab. (on my PC the options are English UK &
English US)
When I get back to IBM PC I'll try this out.
It would still be nice to get a simple "YES that will do it"
Thanks for both your responses

I live in the UK and I've never seen that. I even installed a spare Home
licence on an old P4 system just to see if I was going mad, and I'm not.
