Keyboard does not work in DOS windows on XP Pro.

Hi, my keyboard recently stopped working in any DOS window (except cmd.exe).
I can use the command line, but if I run Edit.exe the keyboard hangs. It was
working about a week ago, so I don't know what changed. Now the strange part
is, I have one DOS app that works SOMETIMES (about one-out-of-three times I
restart it). I mean how is THAT? I would think it's always broke or not...
any ideas would be great! thanks!
