Keyboard and mouse locks up in SHIFT mode

I'm running XP Home and within the last couple of weeks my
computer will suddenly switch into a keyboard mode as if
the SHIFT key (not UPPERCASE) is always active. Left
button mouse click choose multiple entries. I have
changed the keyboard, reinstalled keyboard and PS/2 mouse
drivers, no luck. After rebooting, computer is fine for
about 5 minutes and then acts up again. You can't type
numbers or select a single icons because it chooses
everything from the top of list down to where you have
clicked. I have not installed any new hardware or
software. Tried uninstalling some possible candidates,
reinstalled XP, but no luck. This even occurs when
operating computer remotely (thru Carbon Copy) so that I
am not physically using mouse or keyboard. I have been
running XP Home (with all current fixes in place), AMD 900
MHz, 192MB RAM, for several months. Any suggestions?

Might have something to do with the on-board keyboard circuitry.
Motherboard possibly flaky? Do you have USB? Could
you borrow a USB Keyboard?
