key stroke delay

Word 2007. Characters do not appear on page as typed, but slightly delayed.
What would be causing this and how can it be fixed? Thank you.

Hi Val,

Does the doc contain a long table (... one spanning many pages)?
Word doesn't deal well with them. Setting "AutoFit" to "fixed" helps a bit,
but better split it into several smaller tables if at all practical.

Or is this a very large doc? Does the sluggish behaviour appear mostly while
the doc is still loading?
It might help to work in Draft view (formerly Normal view)... Word 2007
changed the default to "Page layout view", which is harder on the CPU.
Turning off the background spell and grammar checking might help too.
