why is word responding slowly to the keyboard

The cursor stops and the words typed appear after a delay. The monitor is
slow (delayed in showing typed words) to display words typed on the keyboard.
Its like some program is running in the background that interfeers with
keyboard to monitor display. Any suggestions? - I thought it was auto save
but time is set for 10 minutes - not the problem.

I just got Word 2007 and am having the same problem, but only in Word and
Outlook. Anywhere else, such as in this window, I have no problem.

I would be inclined to look at what effect your anti-virus software has on
Office. Most will have an option to turn off active document checking.

Graham:

I have a similar problem. Sometimes, Word temorarily freezes. It doesn't
last long, maybe 10-15 seconds or so, but it's very unpredictable. I have
Symantec Endpoint Protection (network wide AV). I tried looking into
disabling actice document checking to see if this is the problem but I don't
know to do this. When I go into the program, I don't see where I can disable
this process.

See if you have a file called
officeav.dll
in the Symantec folder structure. If you have unregister the dll.
e.g.
regsvr32 /u "c:\path\officeav.dll"
where path is the location of that file. If you don't have this file
anywhere, Symantec may now use another approach.
You would thus have to ask Symantex support if it is possible. I have never
used this version.
