Keeping only the most recent sent item in an email thread.

Dear all,

If you send say 5 emails to a friend and they reply with 5 emails is there
any way to keep only the most recently sent email in your sent items and
delete the 4 old ones. For my settings the most recent one has all the
history of the other 4 anyway so I only need the most recent and would like
it if Outlook could automatically delete the other 4. I can write a small
..Net utility program to do this but surely there's a setting or a rule for
this somewhere as it would help in keeping mailboxes sizes much smaller.
Similarly for received and deleted items if possible.

Wannabe

HI Wannabe,
no there is no such a rule.
You have the chance to enable the function in tools > options > preference
tab > email options.

Hi Andreas,

Do you mean the setting "Save copies of messages in Sent Items folder"? If
I was to enable that setting I wouldn't get any saved sent messages. I don't
want to get rid of all sent items, just duplicates of superseeded items. I
have Outlook 2002. Is there another setting you are referring to?

Regards,
Paul
