Keeping More than One Word Document Open At The Same Time

I have Microsoft XP Professional Office 2002. Until yesterday in Word I could keep as many doucments opened at the same time as I wanted. Suddenly I can only keep one doucment open. After opening an intial documents, and want to keep it open while I open a second docment, either a new one or previousy saved one, whatever I am trying to open takes the place of the existing one and I can only have one document open at a time

This is driving me crazy. Can anyone offer a solution?

Hi Cheryl

There are two separate issues going on here: (a) how many documents can
you have open at once, and, (b) if more than one document is open, how
does Word display them?

Word is probably opening all your documents at once, but it's showing
each one in the same window. You can swap between them using the Window
command.

To show each document in a separate window (with a separate icon on the
task bar) do Tools > Options > View. Tick Windows in Task Bar.

More details at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/SDIMDI.htm

Hope this helps.
