For some requirements, you may find it easier to invest in a
3rd-party solution, such as NetNanny or CyberPatrol.

You need to be aware, however, that *NO* technical or software
solution is fool-proof, and _none_ can ever adequately take the place of
live adult supervision. If you cannot trust your children to
safely/properly use the computer without supervision, you may have to
consider limiting their access to it.

Hi,

Use a router to connect the computer to the 'net. Make sure you password the
login to it, then use it to set keyword and site blocking. Most routers made
for home use now support this. The pc will be able to connect to everything
else, but the router will block access to unauthorized content. This is also
useful as it makes it difficult for the child to find a way to override
parental controls on the pc itself (many of which, like the content advisor,
are easily found on the 'net).

If determined enough, he may still find a way to circumvent any security
measures you create if he has physical access to the machine and the router.
The only cure here would not involve anything technical, but rather a long
talk with the young man.
