Keeping cursor visible while holding down space bar in Word

Dover Jeff

How can I keep the cursor visible while holding down the space bar in Word?
I've observed in writing email (or even this message), for example, that the
cursor remains visiible even while moving when I hold down the space bar;
however, in Word 2007 the cursor disappears while the space bar is held down
and reappears only when it is released. Is there any known resolution to
this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It doesn't disappear for me in 2007 except during the white portion of
the blink process.

Thanks for replying so promptly. My apologies for not acknowledging it sooner.

I'm visually-impaired, so it's highly possible that I'm not seeing the
"blinking" while the spacebar is pressed and the cursor is moving. Assuming
this is the case, my next question then is, how do I get it to stop blinking?

Thanks again.

Hi Jeff,

In the Accessibility applet in the Windows Control Panel, under 'display, you can adjust the blink rate (including a setting for
'None', and also the width of the insertion point (typing) cursor to make it more visible.
Unfortunately, setting it to 'none' may cause it to appear to blink even more if you're in Print Layout view when typing as it
switches the cursor on and off as it repositions. If you type in draft view the Accessibility setting should appear more stable.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the great help! I was able to thicken the cursor and it did
help a little bit in Word "print layout" view. I'm using Windows Vista and
couldn't readily locate a choice of "none" for the blinking rate; however, in
Word "draft" view, as you indicated, the cursor stops blinking and remains
visible when moving due to holding down the spacebar. This is a terrific
help. Thanks so much!

Best Regards,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

For Windows Vista the 'Ease of Access Center' has separated the size of cursor and cursor blink rate into separate dialogs. The
setting for 'None' for cursor blink rate is under
'Make the Keyboard Easier to use=>Keyboard Settings.

In the 'Keyboard properties' dialog on the 'Speed' tab it's the lower left slider position.

You may want to also check the Vista Accessibility tutorials at
http://microsoft.com/enable
for other settings for the display that may be helpful to you.

Bob,
Thank you once again. You have been so helpful; I readjusted the cursor
thickness, eliminated the blink and tried spacing in Word with the new
settings and I am easily able to keep track of its whereabouts--yea! Thanks
again!
