KB959426 made Windows unbootable

ExperiMentor

I am running XP Professional SP3. A batch of 10 automatic updates installed
when I shut down my PC last night. On restart today, part way throught the
boot sequence at Win XP logo page, BSOD for 1/10 second (therefore
unreadable), then PC started to reboot again.

Trying "Last Known Good" did not help. Evenatually rebooted using a Win XP
from a backup hard drive (insited on 'disk check' of my main drive during
boot up) and inspected my main drive. According to WINDOWS\WindowsUpdate.txt,
all 10 updates had installed corectly. I decided to uninstall them in reverse
order. The last one to install was KB959426, and I uninstalled this using the
Wizard in the relevant SPUNINST directory. My PC now boots and seems to work
fine again.

Microsoft Update website dioes not show that I ever installed KB959426, not
does it offer it to me again.

What went wrong? Is everything now OK? Do I need to do something more? Am I
ok not to have the KB959426 "Win XP Security Update"?
