1. This is a public newsgroup, not Microsoft.

2. Users typically encounter problems with the updates from Windows Update
for one or both of the following reasons:

a. They neglect to temporarily turn off their antivirus software or any
other protective software that interferes with script operations or registry
updates, or do not observe other good practices for software installation,
such as exiting open applications; and

b. They have made changes to their systems, wittingly or unwittingly, that
are not supported by Microsoft.

Dear Microsoft,

I wish to echo what this user has said. Yesterday the "automatic Windows
Update" I have (Dell 8200, Win XP Pro SP1) downloaded and installed the
following updates:
KB839645
KB839643
KB841873
KB840315
KB842773
Update V4

After the reboot my system became unstable, crashing during startup with
the Blue Screen Of Death. I would only see the messages for a flash before
it would automatically reboot again, but over the course of many reboots I
managed to see three different STOP errors:
STOP 8E
STOP NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS
STOP PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

I managed to start up in Safe mode and did a System Restore to the point
before these six updates were installed, and I am stable again now. Thanks
goodness for the System Restore feature! Good job there.
I don't see any mechanism to report bugs in the Windows OS itself on your
web site, so I hope you read these forums. Good luck finding the bugs. I'll
turn off Automatic Update for now so I don't get "reinfected". I'd
appreciate a followup note to know when Updates are safe to download again.
