KB826939 Roll-up and the ever popular 811493...

I was affraid of this...

I just thought it would not be an issue until WinXP SP2 was released.
But NOOOOO, Micro$oft found a way to make my life miserable (again).

Microsoft has "rolled up" a number of security patches. and KB826939
includes the poisonous 811493!

I had heard that 811493 had been fixed. But just to be safe I created
a restore point, and then installed KB826939 in isolation.

This seemed to run pretty good for about 30 min. Then my system
appeared to "freeze" for almost 5 minutes. Then all of a sudden it
went wild (I clicked on a bunch of stuf) and settled down again.

Fair enough - back to the pre-install restore point, now all is fine
again.

What the hell is wrong with 811493??? Am I the only one still having
problems with it???

And why the hell didn't MS keep the individual patches listed in the
Add/Remove programs list? After KB826939 was installed - all my
individual patches disappeared and KB826939 was there.

I dont want to remove ALL the patches, JUST 811493.

Thank GOD for the Restore Point I created.

So my current systems as "safe", but I need to resolve this issue for
newer systems, or systems I reconfigure, etc...

IT is only under "other duties as required", so I dont have all day to
fish for this stuff.

Anyone got any ideas??

try going to Windows Update catalog, downloading 811493, installing it, and
then see if it appears in Add and Remove Programs. I beleive this has worked
in the past for roll-ups....
