JVC GR-DVX7 E Connection problem

I am trying to connect my JVC GR-DVX7 E Mini DV camcorder via the firewire
port on the front of the DV to the firewire port on the PC. Neither of the
firewire ports (on the PC) or Windows Movie Maker actually see it. When I
connect using the same cable to the Panasonic DVD recorder it sees it and
records the images, however this does not allow much scope for editing, hence
buying the new PC.

Windows MM suggests nothing is connected. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

Check out the settings on the JVC with some camcorders the firewire port can
be enabled/disabled .
