JVC GR-D70U DV Locks up computer

I am using Firewire to connect my JVC DV and when I start the camera the
computer locks up. When I turn off the camera it reboots my computer. I had
it working initially and then it stopped. This happen regardless of what
capture software I am using. The CD supplied with the camera does not appear
to have drivers for the video components, just the still digital function.

Any encountered and/or solved this before?

Hello,

Good Grief, those symptoms sound very severe. Don't think I have heard of
those before.. Anyway...

1) Go to device manager and uninstall your firewire card
2) Turn off the computer and remove the card
3) Using a vacuum cleaner suck out any debris/dust from the PCI slot and
mother board in general
4) Using a lint free cloth clean the contacts on the firewire card gently
DO NOT RUB them....just use a gentle wiping action.
5) Replace card and power up machine
6) Allow XP to auto detect and set up the card.

Thanks John, I will give that a try. My external hard-drive is connected to
the same firewire card and does not have any problems.
