I just did the update of SP2 (reluctantly) and now I
can't copy files from my portable Firewire drive to my
computer. The drive worked fine this morning, now don't
read. Seems the moment I try to copy it (XP) shuts it
down. It works fine on my office computer (Win2k), but
not on my laptop (XP-SP2). This is very strange and very
insane.

Additional info: It's able to read the info on the drive,
it's only killing it when trying copy files from the
drive or to the drive and mainly large files.

System: Toshiba Satellite; 2.99, 512MB. Heck, don't know
what that info will do for anyone, it worked fine before
I did the SP2 update.

Why is it insane? Anytime you do a major OS upgrade you're likely to
have some software or hardware issues. It's normal.

Why insane: when it worked fine prior the upgrade on a
standard mechanism as Firewire (aka: Generic 1394 to IDE
IEEE 1394 SBP2 Device. This is something supported by
Win98. I feel like things are going backwards NOT forward
as an UPDATE (such as SP2 is promoted to be).

Ok removing SP2 solved the whole issue. This means
there's definately an issue with Firewire and SP2.
Removing SP2 solved it. I guess I'll have to live with
pop-ups and security issues then to not have a working
system.

MS please do your job and give us products that work and
allow us to go forward, not backward in technology and
use. Firewire is suppose to be the future and is
supported previously, what happend?

SP2 really sucks. It hosed my desktop not once, but twice and had to finally
do a low-level format of the harddrive C: in order to get everything back to
SP1a since (despite all the assurances from Microsoft) the rollback from SP2
failed both times.

I can't use my USB2.0 Firewire external HD either and no one has been able
to say why. There are no drivers for SBP2 Compliant serial devices... the
drivers come from Microsoft, not the drive manufacturer, not ADS Tech, not
Microsolutions... yada, yada, yada... and they want me to pay $100 to have a
tech tell me why. Sounds like a scam to me.

If you find out anything, please cc: me as I've got lots of wasted equipment
here until I figure this thing out. Thanks bud! (e-mail address removed)

SP2 Sucks! It hosed me twice... had to do a 14-hour low-level format of my
drive to even begin to rebuild my computer. That update made me also lose my
SBP2-Compatible IEEE storage devices (portable CD and HD drives)

If you find out anything, let me know... much appreciated!

Plato obviously works for MS or has other deep-seeded issues in his need to
criticize others for MS's lackings. Or BOTH! Can't use my Pinnacle Moviebox
DV anymore either! Feeling your pain, guys.
