Firewire/IDE drive now not reading with XP-SP2

I just did the update this morning to SP2 and now my
Firewire drive won't copy files or folders, XP-sp2 halts
the drive now. It worked fine this morning on my laptop
with XP-sp2 and it works fine on my Win2k.

Now everytime I try to copy a folder (which I copied from
my office box to this portable drive I've been
using/syncing with my office box to my laptop for quite
sometime. Now I'm dead in the water with this SP2 update.
Is there an easy way to remove it? I would be better off
with pop-ups and the other problems with XP then not
being able to have my files to work on.

Ok, removing SP2 solved the issue. OK Microsoft, You can
know now there is an issue with SP2 and Firewire/IDE
external devices. Works fine in XP-SP1 and NOT in SP2.

Try reinstalling your motherboard (chipset) drivers. SP2 has a tendancy
to corrupt these drivers during its install for some reason. If your
FireWire isn't built into the motherboard, you will need to update the
drivers for it from the manufacturer's website ;)

Jeff,

I was running XP with Firewire, It ran ok on upgrades to SP1 and SP2 with
no problems.

What chipset does your external drive use? I have found the Genesys 71
chipset doesn't work with SP2's new Firewire drivers, but the Oxfor
911 chipset does work with SP2's new Firewire drivers. I don't kno
wht that would make a difference, but it seems to from the tests I hav
run
