I was wondering if there is a going to be an update in the future to fix this
problem I am having with xp/sp2 not reading my oxford 911 firewire
boards.there is a firmware update forcing xp to read the boards when it shoud
already have that feature(no problem with sp1) If the firmware update is not
put in just right it can burn up the firewire board.I found a web sight that
tells about the issue.

http://www.fwdepot.com/firewiredepot/firmware/firmware.html

WindowsXP/SP2 issue: The drivers in XP-SP2 limit any S800 host to S100 speed
(100Mbs). The rumor mill and some stuff mentioned on the Internet is that
they did this to support CAT5 which can only run at S100 and that they may
have done this for compatibility with older 1394a devices that only run at
S100 like Digital Camcorders.

Both Initio and Oxford have released firmware updates to address this issue
by basically forcing S800 (100/200/400/800Mbs) when the host only wants to
run at S100.

The XP SP2 issue is host related.
So we need an update to fix this problem?

The SP/2 forcing firewire to 100 speed is documented, followed by a registry
tweak for 400 speed. 800 speed can't be effectively used by most devices
including most current ide hard drives in firewire enclosures with 800 speed
capability.

Firewire used as LAN is cost prohibitive due to 6 ft. firewire cable
limitation, and need to use firewire repeaters to overcome this problem.

- Sorry I could not post a new question for some strange reason -

Hi, I am having many problems trying to install windows xp onto my new Sata
drive, Using a Inito 162x Controller. I cannot find any updates or any
drivers on the MS Downloads section. So I have copied the drivers from the CD
with the controller to floppy disk, before I explain further can I just ask
will I need a Driver for my new SATA Harddrive?. Once I have pressed F6 and
gone to choose the driver from the A:\ drive, I choose the correct
file(driver) and then I get an error message.

"File winxp\inic162x.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at file 2113 in
d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\\setup\oemdisk.c.

Press Any Key to continue"

With a blue background.

Is the driver corrupt or something wrong with it? where can I find the
correct update/driver, or can I get a universal SATA driver from windows?

I am completely lost about what to do... I have tried putting the Windows XP
cd into another CD Rom drive and isntal setup from there... I have tried a
different floppy disk (put the files onto that).... the initio site is down
aswel? www.initio.com

help me please

Thanks in advance
