Just Lost Flagging Ability in Outlook

I've been using the flag message in Outlook Express (Windows XP) for several
years. Suddenly yesterday, when I choose to flag a message, I get the check
mark in the dropdown menu, but when I go back to the Inbox, there is no flag
icon displaying...any help out there?
