'Flag' a Message

T

Twinkle

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. I am using Outlook 2003. When I 'flag' a
message in the 'Inbox' it appears in the 'For Follow Up' box, but when I move
this message to another folder I have created within Personal Folders, the
flag disappears from the 'For Follow Up' box although remains on the message.
If I flag a message in a folder other than the 'Inbox' the message appears
flagged but does not appear in the 'For Follow Up' box either.

Does anyone else have this problem and can anyone help please. Thank you.

It all depends on where that other folder is located. The "For Follow Up"
Search Folder only shows messages that are marked for follow up within the
message store where the Search Folder is located in. In other words, when
you move a message to another pst-file, then the Search Folder cannot detect
it. If you move the message to a subfolder of the Inbox folder, then the
Search Folder can still show the message.

You can of course opt to create a new Search Folder in the other pst-file as
well to track the messages within that pst-file. To do so, choose File->
New-> Search Folder... and follow on-screen instructions.

If I flag a message in a folder other than the 'Inbox' the message appears
flagged but does not appear in the 'For Follow Up' box either.

Right-click the "For Follow Up" folder and choose "Customize this Search
Folder". Click the Browse button. What's checked? What _should_ be
checked is the root of the folder tree and you'll see only the folder tree
that the "For Follow Up" folder is in. Search fodlers cannot span multiple
data files. Each folder set can have its own search folders, so if you move
the message to another data store, you'll need to create a "For Follow Up"
search folder in that store in order to see the flagged items you move to
it.
