HI,

I setup an xp PC yesterday, which connected to the web via ICS perfectly.
Today I setup another PC again running xp, however I just cannot get on the
web.

I can ping the ICS PC, traceroute to any website i please as well as nslookup.

However If I try to browse to a web page I get the DNS error page each time.
I think I've seen this before on a fresh XP install but can't remember what
the problem was.

I've tried reinstalling my network card and running network setup wizard but
to no avail.

DO I even need to run the wizard? I thought it was enought to enter the ICS
Pcs ip addy in the 2nd pcs gateway field, make sure its on the same subnet
for ip and enter the dns servers.

Pleasse help, confused.................

from TCP/IP properties:

Obtain IP address automatically

Use the following DNS server addresses:
ISPs primary address
ISPs secondary address

see if that helps

You don't need to run the Wizard on a client computer. If you assign
the client's TCP/IP properties manually, make all of these settings:

IP Address: 192.168.0.x (1<x<255)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server = 192.168.0.1 or your ISP's DNS server(s)

On the client, run Internet Explorer and click Tools | Internet
Options | Connections | LAN Settings. Clear all of the boxes on that
screen.

If those suggestions don't solve the problem, please reply to this
message in the news group (not by E-mail) with more information to
help other people understand the problem:

1. What type of Internet connection are you sharing: dial-up, DSL,
cable modem, etc. If it's DSL, does it use PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet)?

2. What version of Windows does the host computer run? If it's XP,
what service pack, if any, is installed?

If you are connected to Broadband Internet then dump the idea of ICS. Instead get a
Cable/DSL Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41.

Such a device has many advantages including, but no limited to...

4 port 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet switch
DHCP server
Simplistic FireWall capabilities
Built in support of PPPoE
Share one Internet, WAN, address with upto 253 nodes.

With such a device you can even share a XBox or Playstation/2.
