Junk Mail folder

Hi,

We just installed a virus and spam program on our Exchange server 2003 SP1
and it created a Spam Folder in each of the mailboxes thus in Outlook. I
seem to be having a conflict between the Junk Mail folder that comes with
Outlook and the new Spam folder. Mail seems to go into the spam folder at
night but during the day it moves into the junk mail folder. I know that
the junk mail folder only works when Outlook is open while if I go in via
OWA at night I see the spam folder fills up with stuff. When I open Outlook
in the morning some of the stuff that was in the spam folder ends up in the
junk mail folder. I would like to test this out.

Is there a way to disable the Junk Mail folder so that I can test the Spam
Folder out?

I am running Outlook 2003 SP2 plus all critical updates

if you use cache mode, it moves items to the junk folder as the local cache
is updated, so what you see is normal behavior. I don't know of any way to
stop it, short of disabling the outlook filter.

If you disable filtering, only the server side filter you installed will
look for spam. Can the other spam program use the junk email folder instead?
That would solve the problem completely. You can turn Outlook's off in
tools, options, junk email. You may also need to disable it in OWA.

Is there a reason it bothers you that it moves some items from the spam
folder to the junk folder? As long as both are getting spam the other missed
and not getting many false positives, use both and don't worry about the
ones moved from spam to junk.

Hi Diane,

You have a point and I guess it's not doing any harm for now. I will leave
this the way that it is and see what happens. At least I know how to turn
it off if needed.

First of all, thank Diane for her great experience sharing.

Adam, as Diane suggested, you can disable the junk e-mail feature by
selecting 'No Automatic Filtering' radio button on Tools > Options >
Preferences tab > Junk E-mail button > Options tab.

If you have any questions about the junk e-mail function, please feel free
