Joining Windows2000 Domain

Scott

I am attempting to join a Windows2000 Server to an
existing domain (not active directory) within the
organization. Every time I try to join I get a DNS
error...

"The following error occured validating the name "domain-
name".
This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For
information about troubleshooting common DNS lookup
problems, please see the following Microsoft Web site:

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted."

Now, I can join this server to other domains, just not the
one I need it in. I have verified all DNS settings and
everything seems correct.

Anyone see this or know of a workaround??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Windows DNS is not to be confused with Internet DNS. You will need a Win2K
DNS Dynamic Primary Zone set up for YOUR network. Your ISPs DNS does not
have any info for YOUR network.

Already have DNS forward/reverse lookup zones established
in the network on 2 DNS Servers. This server's primary
function is to manage network devices (routers/switches)
and serve as a backup server for another server.
According to Microsoft's web site, all internal DNS
settings are correct. When I try to join this server to
another existing domain within the network it works fine.
I had this particular server as a member of a domain
yesterday, but had some issues with the backup, so I
disjoined the server, and attempted to rejoin to the same
domain today, then the "DNS" error came in to play. I
removed the computer object out of the PDC for this domain
but still can't rejoin. Any ideas on this?
