Joining an NT 4.0 domain

I have just loaded XP pro on a new machine and I cannot
get it joined to the domain. This is the first XP box, but
I have a bunch of 2k pro boxes out there and I have never
had this problem with them. I can ping the network, get an
IP from DHCP. But everytime I try to join, it tells me
there is no domain controller available or it is not
properly registered with WINS. Hope someone has the
solution to this issue.
 
Can you ping one of the domain controllers by name? If not you either need
1) a wins entry 2) a dns entry or 3) a host file with the domain controller
and ip address listed.
