join domain over VPN (pptp)

Is this possible? I get DNS lookup error. tried putting dc
address in lmhosts. server is up and accepting a win98
vpn client with no problems. server is sbs 2000, client is
win2000 pro.

Definitely yes, I did it many times :)
Make sure your IP configuration is correct, you're using the right DNS, and
you have administrative rights for the domain.

You seem a bit confused about how this works. lmhosts has nothing to do
with DNS.

There are basically two ways to resolve names to IP addresses. On a LAN,
machines can use broadcasts to resolve Netbios names to IP addresses. This
method fails in a routed network, so you use lmhosts files or a WINS server.

DNS style names (like machine.company.com) are the other common type.
These are resolved by host files or a DNS server.

Thanks but figured it out. Local LAN was using same
private address subnet as office. Just deleted the route
on NIC and it all worked fine.
