JavaScript Japanese Alerts

I have a multi-lingual website that uses Japanese text.

When I try to alert the user in Japanese language (using JavaScript), it
shows blocks as the text.

This problem does not occur in Netscape 8.1 (shows the alert in native
Japanese).

This problem also does not happen when I use Arabic text.

I have heard that the IE engine uses the Operating System (Windows XP) to do
the alert translation.

Can someone please explain what is going on?

I found the answer.

Operating System (Windows XP) is controlling the display of the alert text.

I went to Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options --> Languages

Click the two checkboxes under Supplemental language support.

Reboot.

Alert now displays Japanese properly.
