In the "Add/Remove Programs" window, I see listed both "Java 2 Runtime
Environment, SE v.1.4.2_04 size 107 MB" and "Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE
v.1.4.2_05 size 108 MB". Do these both need to be there or can I delete the
"04" version? Also, if I look in Internet Properties-->Manage AddOns, I see
2 identical listings for the Active X plugin 1.4.2_05 and one listing for
1.4.2_04. Is this correct? Java was update recently via Windows update
notification.

I have Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2, & Internet Explorer 6.0. I use JRE by
Sun Microsystems. The computer is a Compaq Presario 5888 700Mhz with 256
mgs. ram.

For some reason the java update doesnt remove the prev.version.
You can remove this, though you may find it neccessary after, to reinstall
your current version.
