Java Problem Update

M

Marcus

Hi,

I downloaded and installed the latest Java 1.5.0.2. Dos recognizes this as
the installed version, as does Mozilla 7.0 But all tests done with IE6
indicate Java 1.1.4.....a much older version. I have checked the appropriate
browser boxes in the Java control panel and in the tools / 'advanced' tab
for IE6.

Question: Is IE6 actually using some remnant of the older program, or is it
just reading some ghost pointer to that program?
How can I correct this?

Thanks,

Marcus

Marcus,

When Sun Java updates, it does not uninstall the old versions of Sun Java,
which is a security risk because those old, vulnerable, can be accessed by
malicious programmes.

Remove the old versions of Sun Java via Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
My rant about Sun Java's install protocols can be found here:
