Java Plug-in problems

Help! Help! Is there anyone who can help fix this
problem.

I am having a problem with web pages that a red"X"
appears in part of the page. I was told that it was an
applet problem, and check out the Java.com website. The
website had this problem displayed, however, it advised
to open the java icon under "My computer", and make some
changes. This brings me to the bigger problem - When I
try to open the java icon i get this err: The system
cannot find the registry key specified -
H_key_local_machine\softward\Javasoft|Java plug-in\1.4.2-
03.
I have tried installing different versions, uninstalled,
installed again. Nothing is working. There isn't any
help under Java.com regarding this problem.
I also checked under Internet Options for the Java
section, but it doesn't exist?????

I am totally frustrated, and I have asked alot of people,
but nobody seems to know the problem. Please help or
direct to the proper website.

I am using windows XP

Thankyou
