Java offline download on dialup - 4 Hrs Normal?

I've tried to read all the pertinent questions and answers regarding updating
with the latest Java.

What I've done is uninstall all JRE versions at Add/Remove Programs in
Controll Panel. Then deleted C:/Program Files/Java folder.

When I go to the Java site to download the offline installation version for
jre 1.6.0_02 to save to the desktop, the File Download window shows 4 hours
to download 13.8MB. Earlier today, an interruption at the two and a half mark
has me trying the download again. Right now I'm at 12% with 3:29 to go. Lord
Have Mercy.

Is this speed within the usual timeframe for a dialup download of Java? If
so, what if anything can be done to shorten the download time?

Hi George,

You may want to consider using "Free Download Manager". It claims to
increase your download speed by splitting files into sections ...I actually
use it just for cases like yours. It allows a download to be resumed if the
connection is broken or interrupted. It doesn't have any spyware, adware,
etc., and it's free.

It's no fun getting almost all the way through a large d/l, only to have it
broken, and have to start all over.

Thanks Curt for the help - will remember for the next one. Although I lost
track of the download while it read 2:55 left to go, about a half-hour later
it had completed. So the download took only two hours - I got lucky...

Thank you sgopus for the information - you've taught me another way to get
this slow download job done. Best wishes to you.
