Java acting strange

G

George Mooth

When I play euchre on Yahoo and click on a table it pops
up under the previous screen. I can make it come to the
top by clicking on the edge of the new window. But the new
window is supposed to pop up over the previous window.

Can anyone help please. Also when I close the yahoo
window it makes that clunking sound that indicates an
error I think.

Thank you,

Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs -->

- Remove all versions of Java.
- Reboot.
- Install just the latest version (JRE 6 Update 14.)
- Reboot.

Since Java version JR6 v14 when you install it
, it now removes all previous versions that were installed before installation
begins.

All?

1.4.2's?
5's?
6's before update 11?

No, it only removes versions after 6.10. ANY prior version remains.

Removed all previous on both of mine. Mind you it was version 11 what I had before.
So both you and Shehan are correct. My bad. Got to turn in it is late

Help!
Thank you,

George,

Did you try downloading the Offline file and installing Java again? Look
in the download page for Offline file.

Did Sun finally (after something like 2 years) get around to removing
their "Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper" add-on when you installed a later
version of the JRE? It became superfluous after some version (don't
remember which) but they didn't uninstall it. The result was the
add-on file lingered into a new version install and remained enabled in
IE. As a consequence, and if enabled, this add-on was slowing down
both IE7 and IE8 users.

I don't use IE7 or IE8, so I don't know. The newer versions do install
a plug-in quick starter into Firefox though.

I think software creators need to ask users if they want this junk
installed, not put it there without asking. Same with MS and the .NET
add-in. I'm sure there are others.

Even if using Firefox, the Internet Options applet in Control Panel will
show what add-ons are installed for IE.

Funny, I don't have the IO applet any longer. Using IE6, and it is still
installed as an IE add-on. So the answer is "no". I don't see that as
unusual since the newer versions don't uninstall anything prior to 6.10.
But if it's no longer needed, I'm dumping it!
