Itunes says registry settings missing after Dell fix

I may be in the wrong newsgroup, but I figure that it has to do with the XP
registry.

I have a Dell 4600, XP Home PC. Last week, I had some problems with the DVD
drives; the refused to work with some disks -- the XP reinstallation disk
was Ok but not other disks that should have auto-started.

I called Dell and the tech did make the drives work.

The Dell fix was done by erasing a couple of settings in the Registry:

"Hkey local machine/system/currentcontrolset/control/class/{4D36E965.right
click and erase upper and lower settings."

Yet the fix seems to have damaged my iTunes program -- yes, I have an iPod.
The iTunes Setup Assistant warns me that "The Registry settings used by
Itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can
happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall
iTunes."

What I'm afraid of is that if I reinstall iTunes, the values will be
re-inserted and I might lose the auto-run ability.

Did the upper and lower settings really screwed up iTunes, while fixing the
autorun?

Thank you.

I don't believe the two are related

In the future this will do the same thing that Dell instructed you to do
only quicker
Navigate to
CD Rom or DVD Not Listed in Explorer/My Computer
Save the file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double
click the file. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is done.
You may need to reboot for the change to take effect. Download

Having hanging references in those entries can make the drives
inaccessible. If iTunes needs entries there its reinstall will put back
the ones it needs; those ought not to interfere with other software's
use of the devices.

It is very doubtful that the entries there had anything to do with the
autorun matter
