First, try using the F11 key, to toggle the full screen mode. Regarding the
ITBarLayout, have you checked in the correct location?

Menu bar/Toolbar Missing in Windows Explorer and/or Internet Explorer:

Reset Internet Explorer's Toolbar menu:
http://toolbar.google.com/fixmenu
(If you have Google Toolbar installed already, try the above link)

Ramesh,
thanks for responding

yes i have looked in the correct location

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar -
WebBrowser, Explorer, and ShellBrowser]

sadly, F11 was the first thing i tried

thank you for the toolbar link (it didn't work either)
i have also tried to right-click on the blank areas up there, but to no
avail

any other ideas?

Hi,

See if you have Full Control over the "Toolbar" key, and it's sub-keys.

Additionally, see if this applies in your case:

Toolbars are locked - Unable to customize the toolbar:

oi
if by 'full control' you mean i can edit things, yes i believe i do
as to the other possibility, nothing happens when i right or left click
on the blank space (or the google toolbar blank space)
i'm trying to avoid re-install xp, do you think that is feasible?

sorry,
yes, i do have full control (permissions...)
also, those keys are not in those places the only things in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion
\ Policies \ Explorer
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \
CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
are (default) and NoDriveTypeAutoRun

Reinstall Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP:
http://www.petri.co.il/reinstall_ie_6_on_xp.htm

When you're prompted for the updated system files:

Case 1: If you've installed a Service Pack (1 or 2) after you installed
Windows XP, mention the path as follows:

C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

Case 2: If you have a Windows XP Operating System CD integrated with the
latest Service Pack, simply point to the following path:

X:\i386

Where X:\ is the CD-ROM drive-letter.

Hi jje,

Try running SFC.

Type in Start, Run:

Sfc /Scannow
