Explorer toolbars reset themselves after each reboot !

I am running IE 6.0.28 using Windows 98. Recently, I am having a problem with the toolbars in IE6 AND Windows Explorer. After each reboot they reset themselves to some default (I assume) state; all changes I made (unlocked, no text, customized layout etc.) are lost. I can make the changes again, and they seem to staty on as long as I do not reboot; then they are lost again. I tried the regedit trick (deleting the ITBarLayout entries) with no success
Anyone has any idea ? TIA

You may still have some remnant. Use these tools to clean your computer.

This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware, parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
