Italics has stopped working on TNT font

Suddenly italics has stopped working for Times New Roman font. It continues
to work on other fonts. All other font characteristics continue to work on
Times New Roman - bold, bold italics. But when I try to italicize, it
switches to what appears to be an un-italicized arial font.

Make sure that the italic variant of the font is still installed and not
damaged.

Yes, I checked the fonts folder and the italics file date has not changed
since the original 2003 installation. It acts like it is being redirected,
but I can't find how.

Wait a minute. I opened the font file and it has been corrupted. Now I have
tried reinstalling using MS's recommended way of running setup again, but get
a msg saying the XP version I am running is more current than the one on
disk. What do I do? Run it anyway?

Thanks.

I'm guessing you're going to get better advice on this in a Windows XP NG.
In Office, you can install things selectively (including fonts) by doing a
"repair" or "change" install; perhaps there's something like that in
Windows. If you do reinstall the older version in toto, then you're going to
have to go online and download a slew of updates. I wouldn't recommend that.
If you have access to another machine that has an undamaged copy of the
font, I would just copy it from one machine to the other (using removable
media or by emailing the file).

Unfortunately I panicked and reinstalled xp and now am suffering the
consequences. Your ideas, both of them, are so much better. Wish I had waited
for you!
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks. It just makes my head ache to think about downloading (or even
applying) all the updates. Hope you have a fast connection or TechNet!
