Italic and bold font types not available in programs

Only the main font type is displaying, not the italic and
bold and bold italic variations. There are certain
programs (like QuarkXPress) where the system wants the
user to select the actual font (e.g., Arial Italic) rather
than choosing Arial, then clicking the button to make it
italic or whatever. But perhaps this is normal????

Not all fonts have seperate font files for varients. Windows can thicken or slant a font if there is no font file. Though Arial does have seperate font files (it's the best font in the world despite what the idiots at MS say).

Type fonts in Start - Run, can you see and open them here?
