It keeps asking

When I open a word document and the close it without making any changes at
all, it still asks me, every time, "Do you want to save the changes to
Document 1?"

I don't remember it doing this in the past.

Did I change a setting inadvertently or how can I stop it from asking this
unnecessary question.
 
Walter,

Tools>Options>Save uncheck embeded smart tags.

This is a common cause for this problem.
