issues with labels when I have a couple with a different last name

If anyone is really good with Outlook I need your help, I am desperate for an
answer to this problem.

I have all my contacts in outlook very organized. My issue is when I have a
married couple who has different last names. I try to enter it correctly but
no matter what I do when I try to print labels it comes out all funky. This
makes mailings very time consuming becasue I have to scan all the labels to
make sure they are correct.

I know I could export them to excell and fix them manually once and for all
but the problem is my contact list is constantly changing and being updated
so a master excel spreadsheet is not a good solution for me.

There must be some way to properly enter the contact in this situation but I
can't figure it out, and have tried every which way. I have spent years
trying to research an answer to this problem and have never found my answer.
If you know I would be extremely grateful!!!

You forgot to mention your issue and configuration.
If you mean that you have issues with Outlook putting multiple last names in
the wrong field, press the "Full Name..." button when creating the contact
to verify that they are in the correct field.

I have MS Outlook 2003. The issue is not how the names display in Outlook
when folks have different last names, its when I go to print the labels
through MS word. So for example lets say I have a couple named Jim Smith &
Mary Jones. I enter it in outlook and it reads fine. The issue is when I go
to print the label and it may read Jim Jones, or something like that. I need
to know how to properly enter a couple when they have different last names.

How have you entered the name in Outlook?
What shows when you press the Full Name... button?

For a contact point of view; these are 2 contacts so you'll create 2 contact
items in Outlook. But I can see you dilemma when printing address labels or
when they have only a single point of contact (sharing same email address,
sharing same mobile, etc...).
You can work around this by using Outlook's "File As" field to merge with
instead of the "Last Name" field.
