issues with 4850

I'm having a couple issues, and don't know if they're related or not. First
off, I have a Gigabyte 4850 on an ATI 580 mobo, with a brand new AMD
5400+BE, oc'd to 3.1Ghz

I just put the proc in yesterday, and had the vid card for about a month. I
just started playing Crysis and wasn't getting the needed fps, so I tried
installing ATITool, which caused the whole system to hang when it launched.
It didn't even make it to opening the window. Also, in trying to give
myself more options, I tried to install the new Catalyst 8.11 driver
package, but got an error message saying "Catalyst Install manager failed to
initialize". When I click the "OK", a second box saying Catalyst Install
manager failed to initialize package manager. I hit ok again, and then it
appears to go into the install routine, giving me language options, etc, but
when it gets to the point of analyzing the system, those same 2 popup boxes
come up again, and it doesn't get any further. I have to ctrl alt delete to
quit the installer.

Also, who knows if this is coincidental, is PC Probe II won't install or
run.

I'm finding it unusual for so many things to not work at the same time.
I've built several systems without this unexplained weirdness. And with the
exception of the vid card and proc, this system has been unchanged for about
a year and running fine.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Matty

Do you have Microsoft .NET installed? Catalyst Control Center will not
run properly without it. I've never used ATITool, so I don't know
what's up with that. Did you uninstall that before you tried installing
the Cat drivers?
