Issues when installing Routing and Remote Services in Win2003 SBS

I'm trying to allow VPN connections for people outside the office with
laptops over DSL. When I activate Routing and Remote Services, the following
happens.
1) The VPN Connection works (this is a good thing)
2) The server can no longer see members of the domain either using explorer
or the Network Neighbourhood icon. The domain name is shown, but none of the
members. (Bad thing)
3) (and WORST!) All the clients (a mix of XP Pro and 2000 clients) can no
longer see their mapped drives on the server. In fact, they can't see the
server, though they CAN see each other.
4) If I de-activate R+RS, this does not solve results 2) and 3). I have to
physically install a new NIC to get functionality back.

Can someone please tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong???

I would post this to the microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs news group...
