Issue between HP print software and XP

Have a new system I built for a friend:

Asus A8N-E MB w/AMD64 3200+ cpu
1GB RAM
lite-on dvdrw, geforce 6600 pci-x
250GB HD, Sata2
Antec 350W PS
XP Pro w/SP2 & all updates

HP Photosmart All-in-One 2610
connected via Ethernet
v4.7 drivers, full install


With the HP software installed, I get slowdowns when opening Windows
Explorer or Word documents or occasionally any disc operation (viewing
avi or mpgs). Sometimes the explorer process will freeze (not
responding) then it begins responding again. If I uninstall the HP
software, the issue goes away. No problems with being able to print,
even a windows 98 pc connects via file/print sharing and can print.

I built an identical system except it had XP Home on it and it was a
slightly older HP 2410 AIO. It's connected via USB and works fine.

Sounds to me as if the software is having to negotiate the firewall.
