Is Windows Messenger good?

B

Ben Stevenson

My computer recently crashed and I lost ALL my data.
Had to call in the shop technician for a reformat and reinstall.
My MSN Messenger is gone and I have Windows Messenger instead.
I am told that Windows Messenger is not good and should be
deleted/uninstalled, and MSN Messenger should be downloaded and installed.
I would appreciate some advise on this.
TIA

Windows Messenger is part of the operating system. You can download and
install MSN Messenger if you prefer it.

Thanks for your prompt response.
If I install MSN Messenger, then I will have two, including the Windows
Mesenger, and I would not want Windows Mesenger in my Startup, taking up
resources. How would I remove it?

You can have several instant messaging clients installed and not have a
problem with resources. XP isn't Windows 95, you know. :) Some
examples of instant messaging clients are Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN
Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), as well as Trillian and Gaim.
There is nothing to prevent you from having all of these!

To stop Windows Messenger from appearing at startup.

1. Open Windows Messenger.
2. Click on the tools menu and select options.
3. Click the preferences tab.
4. Untick 'run windows messenger when windows starts'.
5. Untick 'allow windows messenger to run in the background'.

Now visit http://messenger.msn.com and install MSN Messenger.

Hope that helps ?
