Is this a pc speaker "substitute"

I just bought the same type box (at pcclub, is that where you got yours?)
and don't know how to hook that thing up.

from this thread i assume it goes to the pin named buzzer, but what about
the other wire, and does polarity matter?

Hi,

I've just bought a Codegen, budget case. As usual it has no
instructions, althought that is not guite true, it has a sheet telling
you how to fit pci cards.

In the plastic bag which contained screws etc, it has an item I'm not
sure about. It has 2 wires about 4 cm long. One wire is red, with a
connector marked + the other is black marked -. They go into a small,
maybe 1 cm diameter, round black thing. I note the case does not have
a speaker. Is this thing a speaker "substitute" that will manage a
beeb ?

If anyone can confirm what this is it would be nice, as I don't want
to connect it to the motherboard and hope.

Thanks,

Mike

With a hole in it? It's probably a piezo buzzer. It beeps.

Thanks for you very quick reply.

Yes is does have a centre hole, so I'm confident to attach it now.

Thanks again.

Yes, it goes to the pins on the mobo marked buzzer or speaker.
No, polarity does not matter for the beeper. Audio systems
with multiple speakers are another matter regarding polarity.

I have 3 pins for SPK1: Signal, Buzzer and VCC. and try as I might I can
not decypher VCC.

What would you hook it too?

Silicon bipolar circuit terminology for voltage from collector to circuit
common and it's typically +5V.

What would you hook it too?

The plus side of the speaker/buzzer.
